I found out I was pregnant at about 3 1/2-4 weeks and knew I wasn’t ready. After talking with my boyfriend, we both agreed we weren’t ready for a child for several reasons, and I found Hey Jane. They were super responsive and got me the medication I needed, and treatment was honestly pretty easy for me, being at about 4 1/2-5 weeks when I took the pills. I believe that also me taking 1000 mg of Tylenol pm and an anti nausea pill a hour before taking misoprostol also helped and I took the first dose of misoprostol vaginally (I took mifepristone 24 hrs prior). After about 30 minutes, I had cramping (even though the Tylenol dulled it down), a slight fever, and chills, about 15 minutes later the Tylenol kicked in and I fell asleep. The next morning, I woke up, went to the bathroom, passed 1-2 clots, with one feeling like about the size of a golf ball, and had light bleeding overnight. My bleeding immediately decreased after that, and that night I took the second dose of misoprostol for good measure (the nurse told me if I would feel better taking the second dose to make sure I passed everything I could take it). Took the second dose without any Tylenol and experienced no cramps and no additional bleeding. Within 24 hours, my nausea and sore nipples was gone and my fatigue quickly went away. Currently two weeks after my abortion, and I currently only have some breast tenderness but that’s been going away slowly.

In 2019, Illinois enacted a statutory protection for abortion as a fundamental right. In January 2023, Illinois enacted a law that protects providers, patients, and people who help others access abortion care from any out-of-state investigations or legal actions.

How late can you get an abortion in Illinois?
You can be prescribed medication abortion up to 10 weeks after the first day of your last menstrual period. Estimate how far along your pregnancy is with our online calculator.
If your pregnancy is further along, you can get an elective in-clinic procedural abortion before fetal viability (typically about 24-26 weeks) as determined by a health care provider.
Who can get an abortion in Illinois?

The abortion pill explained
The abortion pill is actually two medications taken separately—mifepristone and misoprostol. The first medication, mifepristone, blocks the pregnancy hormone (progesterone), which stops a pregnancy from growing. The second medication, misoprostol, causes cramping and bleeding to empty the uterus.
Medication abortions are safe and highly effective

Getting a medication abortion does not lower your chances of getting or staying pregnant in the future; it does not cause infertility or cause birth defects in a future pregnancy.
