The cost of abortion treatment depends on how patients pay. Insurance patients pay as little as $0 for care with Hey Jane. Pricing for self-pay patients depends on their income but is typically less that in-clinic pricing.

Can my patients get care with Hey Jane if you don’t operate in our state?

As long as your patient can get to a state we operate in, we can get them safe abortion care. They do not need to be a resident of any particular state.

Patients must be located in a state that Hey Jane operates in for their consultation, to receive medications, and to complete treatment.

Our abortion fund partners can help partially or fully cover the cost of treatment, travel, and accommodations. Learn more here.

Is telehealth abortion safe?

Treatment with Hey Jane is incredibly safe, with a 0.16% serious adverse event rate (less than the national average). Our asynchronous care model and patient outcomes have contributed to UCSF CHAT studies featured in journals including Nature Medicine. FDA-approved since 2000, medication abortion is up to 98% effective and accounts for 63% of abortions in the US.

What can my patients expect from Hey Jane's clinical care team?

Our expert clinical team includes MDs, APRNs, PAs, RNs, and Patient Care Advocates that support patients before, during, and after treatment. We practice compassionate, inclusive, and trauma-informed care to ensure a judgment-free and supportive experience.

Does Hey Jane treat early pregnancy loss (miscarriage) with mifepristone and misoprostol?

Yes! We get countless reports from patients whose primary providers can’t prescribe mifepristone but know it is the most effective way to medically manage a miscarriage. 

What is asynchronous care?

Asynchronous care is communication between patients and providers that is not live—such as over the phone, on a video call, or in person. Instead, patients can message their care team in our secure HIPAA compliant app, Spruce, on their own time until the provider has the opportunity to review.

Hey Jane offers primarily asynchronous telemedicine medication abortion care that does not require a patient to have a synchronous appointment with a clinician. Research shows that an asynchronous care model is just as safe, effective, and patient-accepted as a synchronous model (Raymond et al., 2019). This care model significantly expands access by removing multiple barriers that patients face when seeking an abortion, including taking time off work and school, coordinating transportation, and securing childcare. Hey Jane’s asynchronous care model is patient-centered and adaptive, giving patients the choice to have a virtual face-to-face or phone encounter with a member of the clinical care team.

Who isn’t eligible for care with Hey Jane?
  • Patients that have an estimated gestational age (EGA) greater than 77 days
  • Patients that have bleeding disorders or an
  • Patients that have an allergy to misoprostol
  • Patients that are not physically located in a state we operate in for their consultation, to receive the pills, and to complete treatment
  • Patients that are under 18 years of age

Why does Hey Jane not require sonograms?

Occasionally, we do require patients to get sonograms or labs before we can proceed with treatment to ensure they are within gestational range and safe for care with us. This is typically for patients who have difficulty estimating the gestational age of the pregnancy or who have concerns with anemia. In most cases, last menstrual period is very accurate for pregnancy dating.

For patients who have a higher risk for ectopic pregnancy, we require concurrent lab work or sonogram.

Our team orders and helps patients coordinate lab work locally before reviewing the results asynchronously. 

Does Hey Jane accept Medicaid?

Yes, we currently accept Illinois Medicaid for medication abortion care provided to Illinois Medicaid members located within Illinois at the time of service. We are actively working on expanding our Medicaid coverage.

If patients without coverage need financial assistance in addition to our income-based sliding scale pricing, we partner with abortion funds to cover the cost of treatment, travel, and/or accommodations.
