Finding yourself in a situation where you need an abortion is an incredibly stressful and emotional situation all around. I was skeptical to use Hey Jane at first but I had a “great” experience. I say great in quotations because I wouldn’t say having an abortion was great in any way - but having the option to feel like I had quick, safe and affordable care that I could have happen on my time and in my home without having to face anyone made such a difference. I have told my friends about Hey Jane and a few have used it and also had good experiences.

Through Hey Jane I chose to have a medicated abortion. I would recommend Hey Jane to anyone, it made my experience 100x more comfortable than I expected. I signed up and within 1 day I heard from someone confirming my location and where my medication would be sent to. Within 2 days after that I received my medication. I took the 1st pill the day I received it. 6 hours later I took the second set of pills (vaginally because that was the quickest option). The first pill did not cause any symptoms, after taking the second set of pills and laying flat for about 30 minutes I was able to get up and get more comfortable. I had slight cramping about 40 minutes after taking the second set of medication, and then severe cramping about 3 hours after taking the medication. The severe cramps would come and go, it was nothing crazy, and the heating pad/applying pressure with the heating pad helped a lot when those sharp cramps came. I had a fair amount of clotting, but as with a normal period you could feel when you were about to have a clot and I made it to the bathroom almost everytime and was able to sit on the toilet which in my opinion was a lot more comfortable than letting it come out on a pad/period underwear. I was given ibuprofen with all my medication and I did keep up on taking it every 8 hours as the instructions stated. My severe cramping lasted (coming and going) up until the next morning. I highly recommend doing the medication towards the end of the day/nighttime, when the pain would go away I was able to actually fall asleep and wouldn’t wake up until the pain got sharp again. By the next morning the cramping mainly just felt like normal period cramps, it is now 11 days after my abortion experience and I still have off and on cramping (nothing too bad) and off and on blood clots usually only when I use the bathroom. (similar to a super light period). Throughout this entire process I had my partner with me, I highly recommend having a support person with you wether it is a parent, a sibling, a partner or even just a close friend. Anyone you trust and are completely comfortable around, it makes the emotional/mental portion of this experience a little bit easier. It also helps to have someone there to even just hold your hand or give you a hug when needed. I would recommend Hey Jane to any woman seeking abortion help. The world is a scary place right now and having a resource that is completely private and very affordable (I paid “out of pocket” with no insurance and paid $800 less than what Planned Parenthood was going to charge me.) is amazing.. since my abortion I have been sent many messages through Hey Jane telling me that I am not alone and that there is always help for me if it is needed. I haven’t felt alone a single step of the way through this. The pain emotionally and physically was no joke, but it was nothing us women cannot handle. Hey Jane allows women to take care of themselves and their bodies in private without the fear of anybody telling us what to do. Overall I would give my full experience (abortion and Hey Jane) a 10/10.
